Hong Kong is committed to achieving carbon neutrality before 2050 and accelerating the energy transition. Hydrogen energy, as a low-carbon energy source with significant development potential, is being actively promoted by the Government for local application. In response to the promotion of hydrogen energy, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department organises the first "HydroRace Challenge" on 15 March 15 2025 in collaboration with the Education Bureau.
The event aims to showcase the applications of hydrogen can as a clean energy source through STEAM workshops, and demonstrate to the participants the generation of hydrogen gas as well as the conversion of hydrogen energy into kinetic energy. Participants will apply the materials provided by the organiser to assemble four-wheel drive model cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and compete with other teams on various racecourses for the championship.
All secondary schools in Hong Kong are invited to this event. Each team shall consist of 3-5 members and 1 teacher as instructor. Students interested please download the application form at the following link (https://applications.edb.gov.
